Designing web applications for government use requires a Human-Centered Design (HCD) approach, prioritizing UI (User Interface) and UX (User Experience) to ensure accessibility, security, and scalability. Our design process focuses on creating intuitive, user-friendly interfaces that enhance usability while maintaining compliance with Section 508 (DHS 508 Certified) and WCAG guidelines to support users with disabilities. Security is critical, requiring robust encryption, multi-factor authentication (MFA), and compliance with FISMA and FedRAMP standards to protect sensitive data.
Additionally, government applications must emphasize clear navigation, responsive design, and streamlined workflows to assist employees in managing internal operations efficiently. We leverage modern frameworks such as Bootstrap for flexible layouts and cloud technologies for scalability, ensuring government web applications are cost-effective, easy to maintain, and optimized for operational efficiency. By integrating UI/UX best practices into our design process, we create digital experiences that are not only compliant but also intuitive and accessible for all users.
The Red Sky Dashboard was designed to enable the CDC's Situational Awareness Team to monitor global health events in real time, providing leadership with critical and up-to-date information to support decision-making in the event that personnel and resources need to be deployed.
The Texas Department of State Services wanted their own version of Red Sky to monitor and respond to health events within the State. Based on CDC's Red Sky, the Texas Red Sky Dashboard also incorporated KML/KMZ layers to display infrastructure such as fire & police stations, hospitals, and custom layers tracking Zika infestation.

Work-in-progress (WIP) mockup of the CDC’s Clinical Incident Application, designed to track visitors to the U.S. who may have been exposed to contagious illnesses like Zika. Form fields are labeled with existing data sets to streamline development and enhance accuracy.
